Dear All, This is just a brief posting to let people know the dates for my next Stage Combat Masterclasses. They will be held on Wednesday, June 6 and Wednesday July 4 and both workshops run from 6:30-8:30 pm. The venue is Old Masonic Hall, The Broadway, Nedlands, Perth (Black Swan Theatre Company studios). The fee is $15 each, or if you book for both, $20. Workshop content is as follows: June 6 - HOLLYWOOD SWASHBUCKLING This will be an exploration of single rapier fighting in the early Hollywood Style (1930s-1950s). Underneath the colour and flamboyance of stars such as Errol Flynn, Douglas Fairbanks and Basil Rathbone there was a fair degree of technique, and a history dating back to the British Theatre of the Victorian era. July 4 - HISTORICAL FENCING-SAVIOLO Vincentio Saviolo was an Italian master-of-arms who, along with a handful of his compatriots, set up fencing academies in London during the late 1500s in direct competition to the English masters who had been chartered by King Henry VIII. A fierce rivalry between the two schools ensued and it was a hot topic of debate during Shakespeare's time. There are even references to it in 'Romeo & Juliet'. This workshop will explore a rapier & dagger sequence lifted directly from Saviolo's own manual as it typifies the style of swordplay used in the Italian academies of the time. For more info or to book, please e-mail me on: stagecombatperth@yahoo.com.au or ring 0417-980-366. Happy Swashbuckling! Andy Fraser Fight Director
