Yes, come and do a student

Yes, come and do a student film and be completely fucked around for 10 hours as the director and crew have no idea what they're doing and have no idea how to deal with actors, as they only have been trained in the technical side of filmmaking. Then watch in the amazement as the promised copy of the film doesn't get sent to any of the actors who took part.

Well that was a bit

Well that was a bit harsh. I make films every now and then, and over the holidays we filmed a mock mafia TV show. We used our friend group as the extras who were all promised to die in a fantastic way. It was enough to get them to come-even though they knew they'd be sitting around for most of the day. A student film clearly means they're going to be learning from the experience and its going to be part of their marks for whatever course they are doing. So of course not everything is going to be 100% perfect like you'd expect on an official movie set....and you can be sitting round those sets for hours too I'm sure. I wish you best of luck with your film guys...and I don't think Sickov will be auditioning. _____________________________________________________________ Currently working on: "The Ultimate Broadway Musical" The Three-Person, Audience Interactive, Little Bit Of Improv, Mini-Musical event of 2007.

Well, everybody has to

Well, everybody has to start somewhere. I only graduated from film school last year. I'd have to agree though, a lot of students get extremely hung up over the technical aspect and then neglect everything else, namely the creative/artistic direction. I've seen actors being told to do 'the same, but more' and films get half-finished and then seemingly lost forever by student filmmakers who had no idea what they were doing. It's true that the best way to learn how to do things is on the job, but that isn't to say you can't at least do a bit of research on your own. My other problem with student filmmakers and most Australian indie filmmakers is the general unwillingness to make anything exciting. As an example, take the cast of this particular film. It doesn't seem that different from the cast in 90% of films put out by AFTRS, SFS, SIFS, tropfest, etc.

Fed up

I couldn't agree more with Sickov Stoodenphilgms. The amount of times I do these films, you end up spending hours upon hours trying to get the scene right and it still looks mediocre. Worst part about it though is you're promised a DVD afterwards and it never materialises unless you pester the filmmakers. I hear most student filmmakers are whinging about the lack of talent they get for their films. Is it any wonder!
