Hello Everyone I have discovered your wonderful theatre site and am honoured to be part of it. I am 17 years old and my first love is Musical Theatre. I have taken part in a promotion titled STREET IDOL which is associated with Australian Idol. Although this is not normally my thing, it was fun and a great experience. I'd love you all to check out my 30 sec clip and rate it (by sliding the microphone slider below the screen). the link is http://www.streetidol.com.au/video.asp?page=view&orderby=totalviews&dir=desc&filter=&paginate=&id=2346 thank you

Re shameless self promotion...

Kristyn, you certainly are not a loser and I hope you are able to ignore the ignorant and extremely rude and cowardly comments from the anonymous poster of "Crap" (which describes his post most adequately and I hope the moderators are able to block him/her from posting poison here again.)

I took the time to read about the competition on the website at the link you posted and learned you have to pick a song from a list they provided and sing to it using your own voice and their backing music which you download.

So given this information and assuming this was you singing to the downloadable backing music, then WELL DONE!  I also bothered to read your profile on this site and congrats and well done again at landing that role in Fiddler on the Roof.

And to the "person" who posted "Crap" - shame on you.  This girl is just 17 and I daresay she's achieved more in her short years than you ever will.  The fact you have to hide behind an anonymous name says it all.

Keep up the good work Kristyn!

street idol

Hi I'm back....... and would love your support. I have made the final 12 in the Street Idol Promotion. I'm not disturbed by the comment from "Crap" - I'm a hardened performer (ha ha) and even though the comment was harsh...it doesn't worry me. I thank the person above me for their lovely words of encouragement and appreciate that they took the time to check out the terms and conditions of the competition. Yes! I did have to choose a song from their songlist (and there wasn't much to choose from). The clip is a sendup and not intended to be a performance.... and I also had 30 sec to get the message & song across. The prizes for this competition is a trip for 4 people to the Grammies in the U.S.A. as well as $20,000 the whole prize package worth a cool $80,000.00. I'd love for any one out there wishing to support me to visit the site http://www.streetidol.com.au/home.asp and register (as well as vote) for One Girl Band. Please feel free to check out the other TALENT on the site You may be rewarded for your efforts, Telstra are giving away a "Sandisk Mp3 Player" worth $250 to a voter each hour. So far, many many people who have supported me have already won. Think of all those musical theatre numbers you can download on your new mp3 player. cheers kristyn

New piece of music theatre

An out of work academic (Matt Holt) and jazz musician (Rick Ballan) have put their heads together to write a new piece of musical theatre about being out of work. The result is "Cleanskins". With a cast including six of Sydney, s finest actors being accompanied by a seven-piece band (including a three piece horn section and some of Australia’s finest muso's), the show opened last month to packed audiences. The story is about a modern day odd couple who find themselves victims of...how shall I say... economic fundamentalism and bitch about it in music. The characters also include a pair of perceptive drunks from Darlinghurst, a non-bimbo girl and an asio officer who is quite insane. The music ranges from Leonard Bernstein to Tom Waites to the Tango; it even includes a Medieval cantus firmus thrown in for good measure. John Waters, whose son Ivan is in the play, said that in all his years of acting on stage he had never seen anything quite like it, neither musical nor play, its more like Berlin cabaret but with contemporary Aussie humour and entertaining music. Written and directed by Matt Holt with music by Rick Ballan, the show is playing on Tuesdays nov 14, 21, 28 and dec 5 at "Bar Me" 154 Brougham st Kings X. $25 show or $40 show and dinner. Book at Bar Me, Ph: 93680894 or online at reservations@barme.com.au. Kind regards, Rick Ballan 0404160395.

Why don't you register and .....

Enter this one as a production instaed of tailing onto a thread that has no relation to it. If I lived in Sydney I would certainly be going. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au

I guess we did get what the title said

Shameless self promotion! Not my bag at all, but good on you for getting out there. Being shameless is one of the uncomfortable (for me) but necessary requirements of the industry. Won't say I'll follow your progress in this comp at least, but good luck with it. :-) and ummm- what was with the ad for the production in the middle of the thread??!! Under production boys! Nev It's the simple things stupid...
