First of all you need to understand that having an agent is having a relationship with them, trusting them and also (if they are trustworthy) Question is, do they give you the time and support as a loyal agent should... To be honest they will if it is a small company that holds up to 40 actors…. or is it an agent that works with thousands of extras...if they do work with thousands of extras then it might be a bit hard for them to focus only on you. Or give you the time you deserve. If they can’t offer you the support you need to get out there as a growing actor eg Advice, help on auditions or advice on training or keep you updated and update their data files on you then. You can judge for yourself really. Give them a try if they seem to be honest and believe in you to get work for you then. No harm in giving them a try. If they promise the world to you then that’s a problem....in this industry nothing is for certain especially when you are just starting out in this industry. There are some many ways to understand your agents background, like researching there business, how long they have been in business. my agent has been in business for over 25years so that’s a good sign, are there contracts involved, is it a fortune in joining fees, which are never good. Agents that believe in you to go far with them will automatically accommodate you with the least expenses and not ask for your money immediately.
