Ross McGregor 'The Craft of Reading a Scene' at FTI

The Film and Television Institute is proud to present a great workshop with Ross McGregor. This six session workshop for Writers, Directors and Actors will explore the essential skills required for reading a scene. So that a Writer can more clearly chart a story and the Director and Actors can better understand and interpret it. This course will allow you to understand what a scene is about and identify its themes, premise and point of view, along with the character’s wants and motivations. At the conclusion of the course participants will be able to determine whether or not the scene has impact, the characters are clear and if the scene is functional with crisis, climax and resolution. Ross McGregor is one of Australia’s most experienced and respected Directors of Theatre and Screen. He has just completed a second six-year period of teaching at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School. Ross has directed Theatre and Television and taught acting, directing and script structure at Australia’s leading educational institutions and coached privately for television networks and performers. Since 1969 Ross has directed upwards of 50 productions for theatre and television. Ross is currently working on the final draft phase of his AFC-funded full-length screenplay, Nobody Dies from Singing, while also directing Tom Stoppards’ “Arcadia” for Canberra Repertory Theatre and commuting to Perth to teach at TAFE and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. When attending the workshop Writers and Directors are asked to bring along a two single page scenes from an un-produced script that they would like workshop. Actors are not required to bring any scenes to the workshop. Participation in this course is through application. Candidates are asked to submit an overview of their experience and a 1-page statement outlining why they would like to attend this course. Application Deadline: Friday 18th August 5pm.
