Perth Dancers
Soph, is doing the MT cert at waapa and also goes to Vogue Entertainment Aust.
I know she has been dancing in Adelaide all her life but come to Perth this year. Obviously she wants a career in MT but is best at dance.
I reckon if you want to be a dancer you have to start young cos its very difficult to pick up later, that is of course if you want to be professional. Anyone at any age can learn to dance well, but I think if you start when your small its better.
There are excellent dance schools in Perth, John Cleary, Jodies etc
Alex (male) who is in the 1st year BA MT at waapa is also from Adelaide and lol Soph and Alex competed against each other all the time in dance comps since they were little kids in SA and I remember they were the only 2 competitors in the Theatrical Championship.
Dance/song and dance got them into WAAPA neither have been real professional with singing but they can sing well but dance comps is great for those who want to go further in that field.
Perth offers much more than Adelaide.
If you start at a dance school and thats what you want to be you can audition for other places interstate like Brent Street, VCA, DW301, Dance Factory. I think a competitive school teaches you the discipline and confidence you need to get into the other places.

Just wondering why so many people are making reference to Sophie? I know she has never visited this forum but has been made aware that some people have referenced her.
To generalise and answer the question about Perth dancers, I know quite a few who have made it into musicals and travelled interstate to further their career in dance.
A couple of prominent dance schools have taken students interstate to compete and the Perth standard is quite superior.
Many strong classical dancers have been accepted into the Australian Ballet school.

Age?
Does age seriously count THAT much? My younger sister is 14 this yr and self taught herself ballet from books in the local library, joined a beginners class this year and has been pushed up to advance within the first month and is now in the top three students in her class. The other two have been studying since they were about 5 or 6. So does age seriously count?
I know a few girls who are taking their dancing to a professional level. Two have begun studying Dance at WAAPA this year. Another has moved interstate to study in Sydney. But the quality of Dance in WA is quite high but yes many people are moving interstate to actually find jobs etc.
