Sunday 27 July 2008

Filmbites Youth Film School are seeking actors to appear in a short film “Poppy”, a dark comedy to be filmed over Term 3 (late July to late September) for 2.5hrs every Wednesday by advanced filmmaking students 14-17. Auditions are by appointment. For more information or to book an audition please email Hallie at info@filmbites.com.au or phone 9408 0362 We are seeking to fill the following roles: George Harris (Main Supporting Character) (40-50) George is a thoughtful, enthusiastic, gentle, cultured father of three who tries his best to assist everyone. He is always busy; he loves literature and has a slight femininity to him. He is extremely welcoming when Poppy comes to live with him; however he is oblivious to the truth of his family. Archibald Arthur (60-70) Archie is a grumpy, rude, uneducated English old man with a very poor memory and toilet issues. He is confined to a wheelchair, but not due to disability; he’s just too lazy to walk. Archibald is George’s father, Martha's husband, friends with Roger and is Poppy’s grandfather, but he can never seem to remember her. Martha Arthur (60-70) Martha is an uneducated English woman with a terrible temper and a knack for blaming things on everyone else but herself. She is brutally honest and often criticises others. Married to Archie, she leeches off her son George for money, transport and housing. She finds Poppy to be rude and not up to the same standards as her beloved granddaughter, Tammy. Roger (60-70) Roger is a rich, English friend of Archibald’s who has retired on a large estate and lives alone. He is happy being alone and just like Archibald he is lazy and grumpy. He is demanding, scowling, stubborn and hunched and is the sort of person who would kick a beggar rather than give them a penny, despite his enormous fortune. Tammy Arthur (14-16) Tammy honestly believes that she is gorgeous, model material who should be in magazines. The truth is she’s overweight, caked with makeup and extremely lazy. She has no respect for anyone and refers to her father as “George”. Tammy isn’t too pleased when Poppy arrives, but she sees it as an opportunity to have her own personal slave. Unfortunately that plan backfires on her. Rupert Arthur (8-12) Rupert is a pestering brat who always whinges and whines. He plays the trumpet and genuinely believes he is a natural, although he can’t play a decent note. He carries his rubber chicken wherever he goes and eats a lot of junk food. Emily (30-35) Emily is a tae kwon do champion who is amiable and pleasant, but whose priority is her career. Termite Man (30-45) He is your average guy from the suburbs with young children who has been in this type of labour business since he left school. "Poppy" is a non paying film but actors will receive a copy of the movie for their showreel and many Filmbites films are submitted to local, national and international festivals with great results.
