"Phoenix Dreams- "Sometimes the hardest path is the easiest road". An Absolutely Brilliant Production. Congratulations and thank you to Brisbane Director Lisa Arratia-Pio, the Cast and Crew for making my day. It's remembering where we come from that can also allow us to remain true to our dreams, no matter what the sacrifice"
Mark Theodossiou,
AUSTRALIAN ACTORS NETWORK.
Its comments like these which after a 2 year slog to start up my own and sister's theatre business which makes the hard road so worthwhile.
We are Sisters from a poor background and previously lived in the bronx areas of Sydney they call "Mt Druitt"(although its not as bad as they say!) but with a strict father who wanted nothing but discipline as well as an education for his children. We continued to graduate each with a Bachelor of Arts. Now everyone knows you dont need a degree to get somewhere in life but a degree nonetheless is still a major achievement and particularly for our Pacific Islander People, we are certainly very proud when we hear one of own has a degree on their belt.
Last Friday for Bump-In was a TRAIN-WRECK!! Moving, setting and fixing SETS on the day before was HELL!Yes we run Samoan time but with very lil budget we had to do with what we could. The energy of the Cast and crew were down and the heat didnt help us last friday either creating more havoc than harmony. With very lil budget, time restrictions,we were all feeling the pressure! But just as we all felt a LOW on Friday, I took the advice of my Set Designer Andrew who said "You Only get Today, Now, so you might as well enjoy it instead of stressing out!" He sure was right! I put aside everything that went wrong Friday and walked into the Princess Theatre with a positive, happy and stressfree attitude.
My Gosh! What happened next was MARVELOUS! It seemed my positive energies even though we were not 100 percent equipped, flowed onto the our Theatre Team who all were feeling so pumped, postive and ready for anything!
By our 7pm Show we were FULL HOUSE, people were still trying to find a seat at 7:10pm! I was Elated, Excited and pumped with so much High Adrenalin!!! Brisbane Powerhouse attended as a Patron and gave us positive feedback, AAN Mark Theodossiou also gave us positive feedback and all families, friends as well as audience members were all beaming with pride for the show!
We are currently on a Xmas Break but we are back for Feb/March! There is a certain electricity in the air with all our Phoenix dreams Cast & crew, who have all worked so hard for 2 years to perfect & work on the quality of the show. We certainly are very proud of it and proud of ourselves but this is just the begining!
We are here for so many reasons and on so many levels for so many walks of people but we are here to make a positive change that the Australian Theatre Industry is crying out for! ALOT of SOUL, Raw TALENT, Innovative Story telling, Unconventional Features in Theatremaking and much more!
Never Underestimate the power of LOVE! Because it will always lead you to your DREAMS!
Much Love
