AddressGardens Theatre, 2 George St, Brisbane
QUT Showcase Theatre, with special guest director Kate Cherry, from the Melbourne Theatre Company.
A young British marine lieutenant is directing the first play ever to be staged in Australia to celebrate the Kings birthday. With only two copies of the text, a cast of illiterate convicts and one leading lady who is about to be hanged, conditions are hardly ideal for what will be the Australian premiere of George FarquharÂ’s Restoration comedy, The Recruiting Officer.
Highly theatrical, often funny and at times dark and disturbing, it sets an infant civilisation on the stage with clarity, economy and insight.
Performed by graduating QUT Creative Industries Actors.
