The Ghost and Two Girls
- A short story by the ‘Lucy and Lila’ team.

A long, long time ago there lived two girls named Belinda and Loani. Sadly though, the girls were actors. As they waited day and night for an offer of instant stardom, unemployment and misery prevailed.

Then one sunny day Belinda interrupted their daily dose of the all time great soapie Passions, and said “Hey Loani, I’m bored!”

Loani began to cry, as was her tendency in life, and replied “Me too!”

Then, as if by magic, a figure dressed in a tutu appeared before them. “I am the ghost of independent theatre! Hear me!!! Hear me!!!!”

“Ahhhh!!!” The girls screamed and huddled together in fear. “Why do you haunt us so?”

“You are to write a great play!”

“Oh my! A play?” the girls asked.

“It will be known to all as ‘The Lucy and Lila Show’!!! You will write, direct and perform in the show alongside other unemployed actors called Haley North and Rhys Robinson!!!” the ghost bellowed in a slight Irish accent. “You will spend all your hard earned money from making coffees and selling t-shirts to produce this show!! This is your destiny! Go!!! Go!!! ” And with a sigh, the ghost of independent theatre disappeared.

Belinda turned to Loani. “We must follow our fate and create ‘The Lucy and Lila Show’!!” The two girls leapt up excitedly and began spinning around in circles. Circles of happiness!

Belinda became sick from spinning so they stopped and, with the help of their cast and some friends of theirs who were very funny, they devised a show about Lucy and Lila! It became a show about two girls who work in a run-down corner store owned by the tyrannous Mr Perez. Striving to one day buy the shop, the girls approach their goal the best way they know how- by living in a 50Â’s sitcom fantasy! With their neurotic and comically tragic behaviour, Lucy and Lila try and fend off other potential buyers and love interests but in true sitcom fashion, nothing goes to plan. Their friendship is tested and they end up with ice cream in their hair, murder weapons in hand and canned laughter all the way.

The end.
