AirSwimming
by Charlotte Jones
presented by Agelink Theatre Inc – Australian Premiere
A solitary bath, one peroxide wig, the music of Doris Day and a curious form of synchronized swimming, set the scene for Agelink TheatreÂ’s (Quartet, Dear Heart) production of AirSwimming by exciting award winning British playwright Charlotte Jones.
AirSwimming, based on a true story, explores the remarkable fifty year friendship of two women. Denied freedom - the simple act of ‘coming up for air’ – they choose to ‘swim’, despite the adversity of their surroundings. Dora and Persephone find that the world of their imagination allows them to be whoever and wherever they wish.
AirSwimming is a play with enormous humour, compassion, rich imagery and belief in human potential, which will delight, move and entertain.
'admirably clear and unsentimental, effortlessly gliding from the desperately funny to the desperately sad.' Guardian, UK
