‘PICK OUR BRAIN’ FORUM – WEDNESDAY 28 AUGUST 2002

Blackbird Productions is proud to present the long-awaited Australasian Premiere of William FinnÂ’s A NEW BRAIN, directed by Nic Clark (Artistic Director Riverina Theatre Company, 2000 Directing Graduate on Barbara Manning Scholarship - VCA, Playbox, MTC, State Theatre Company of South Australia, Opera Australia).

A NEW BRAIN is a hot new musical that originally debuted at New YorkÂ’s Lincoln Centre to outstanding acclaim. Gordon Schwinn, a down-on-his-luck songwriter, collapses, is rushed to hospital and is forced to confront his own mortality, his mother, all the songs he never wrote and the giant frog - Mr. Bungee!

Bursting open at Chapel Off Chapel in August, A NEW BRAIN has a pop/gospel soul layered with exquisite ballads, witty lyrics, sparkling comedy and features some of the hottest stars of Australian stage and screen, including David Hynes (The WinterÂ’s Tale, Clockwork Orange, Beethoven Moonlight Sonata), David Gauci (Schwartz and All), Mark Doggett (The Merry Widow, Hair, The Music Man), Karinda Mutabazi (Hair), Tara Wightman (Mame), Belinda Allchin (Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Mack and Mabel, Cats), Gregory Ross (The Sound of Music, Cop Shop, Blue Heelers), Barry Mitchell (Anything Goes, Mack and Mabel, Prodigal Son) and Judith Roberts (Fiddler on the Roof, Nunsense, A Cup of Tea, a Bex and a Good Lie Down).

Jonathan Densem as Musical Director will oversee the amazing nine part vocal harmonies and the eight piece band while Erica ChestnutÂ’s choreography is sure to keep the cast on their toes while Kellee FrithÂ’s innovative and exciting set and costume designs will round up this enjoyable musical gem!
