"oz cultural satire with teeth - determined to gnaw at your funny bone"
WORLD PREMIERE
in collaboration with the Victorian Arts Centre Trust, Ruby Entertainment and Melbourne Festival
with John Howard, Manning Clark, Clive James and Barry Humphries brought to you by Max Gillies
special appearances by Robert Hughes, Geoffrey Blainey, Patrick White and Germaine Greer. And invitations to Les Murray, Bob Ellis, Barrie Kosky, Barry Jones and other participants in our Great Cultural Debate.
The symposium will allow an assortment of pontificators and performers to address the perennial problem that has haunted us since the dawn of federation: 'Just who do these Australians think they are?'
From the deserts, a proliferation of prophets, carrying the torch into a new century.
For the audience, a night of healthy, healing hilarity.
From the creators of Gillies Live at the Club Republic - and in the tradition of A Night with the Right and The Gillies Report - comes Max Gillies' Federation Lectures. A naughty and timely political satire from one of Australia's most gifted, loved and original actors.
Max Gillies has had a career of collaborations with writers through his numerous original works for stage and television. The founding chair of the Australian Performing Group, he has acted for theatre companies across Australia; in new work, classics, musicals and Opera.
'(Gillies) is a meticulous consummate performer; a perfectionist. He has charisma and control as an actor that is quite extraordinary.' David Williamson
