AddressQ Theatre, Penrith
SOMEWHERE will be the first large scale musical production in SydneyÂ’s newest theatre venue.
The production, by the professional company which has been resident in the Q for almost 30 years, opens in the new Q Theatre at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre in October.
SOMEWHERE focuses on five randomly selected members of the Penrith community who have been invited by a secret committee to devise the opening celebrations for the new Q Theatre at the Joan Sutherland Performing Artrs Centre.
Their diverse viewpoints lead to some intense rivalry and wild imaginings. Lilly, the taxi driver wants a show about families, she tells a haunting story about a family lost on the roundabouts of Glenmore Park. Trevor, an ex-footballer, pushes for Penrith’s own “Footy Show” live on stage, and Philomena wants a grand musical which, naturally, she will direct and star in.
SOMEWHERE is a magical musical about a community that sets out to tell a story. The problem is – whose story to tell?
The production stars two of AustraliaÂ’s most respected and established musical theatre stars in the shape of Geraldine Turner and Sharon Millerchip.
Geraldine Turner has appeared in musicals such as Oliver, Chicago, A Little Night Music, Anything Goes, Guys and Dolls, Into The Woods and Sweeney Todd, and plays including Present Laughter and Don's Party. Her many concert and cabaret performances have taken her across Australia and to New York, London, Vancouver, San Francisco – even Africa.
Sharon Millerchip starred as Velma Kelly in Chicago and has appeared in musicals like Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera and Into The Woods. Most recently she appeared in TheyÂ’re Playing Our Song for The Production Company and Kooky Tunes for Showtune Productions.
SOMEWHERE is a new major musical especially written by award-winning writer Kate Mulvany and directed by Brendon McDonall, with lyrics by Tim Minchin and Musical Direction by Greg Crease.
SOMEWHERE opens at the Q Theatre for a strictly limited season of three weeks from October 7. Bookings: (02) 4721 8832.
