Playwright
Music by RICHARD RODGERS Book & Lyrics by OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II
Director
Director Mel Hogan, Choreographer Laurie Tancred, Music Director Ian Wesley
Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still being followed today. The score by Richard Rodgers contains classics such as ‘Oh What A Beautiful Mornin’’, ‘The Surrey With The Fringe On Top’, ‘People Will Say We’re In Love’ and of course ‘Oklahoma!’. Set in a Western Indian Territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colourful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love’s journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA! Performances of `Oklahoma!’ are on 25th, 26th October and 2nd, 8th, 9th November at 8pm and 26th October and 2nd and 9th November at 2pm. Bookings can be made through the website (www.nucms.org) or by telephone on 9680 1442. Tickets cost $30 for adults, $25 for concession card holders and $15 for children.
