Exit, pursued by a bear . . .
The fourth in our series of second semester productions, this year we’re presenting Shakespeare’s complex late ‘Romance’, The Winter’s Tale. Our adaptation transports audiences to Bohemia at the turn of the twentieth century and, with the linking character, Chorus, drawn from Music Hall theatre, offers an interpretative commentary on the events in the play.
The Winter’s Tale, devised and directed by Jenny de Reuck, promises an inventive presentation of Shakespeare’s complex tragicomedy. We offer not only an original interpretation of the characters and events that comprise the complex world of this later work by Shakespeare, but provide, in addition, both a dramatized perspective on the literary and historical context within which Shakespeare and his contemporaries were writing.
