The Hills Musical Company is once again breaking new ground in 2012 by presenting the South Australian premiere of The Drowsy Chaperone. This multiple award winning musical, including five Tony awards, two of which include Best Book and Best Original Score, premiered on Broadway in 2006 and played over 674 performances on Broadway. Scott Nell stars as a die-hard musical theatre fan who invites us into his dreary living room. As he drops the needle on his all-time favourite album, an outrageously funny musical from the 1920s, The Drowsy Chaperone, bursts into life complete with a pampered starlet, gangsters, chorus girls and all manner of mayhem. The Drowsy Chaperone is a jazz-hot trip back to the golden age of musicals when stars had charisma, Broadway had romance and Rodgers had Hart. With music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and book by Bob Martin and Don McKeller,The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical within a comedy. The title refers to the show within a show – a camp zany 1920s musical that the lead actor ‘man in chair’ loves to escape to when he is feeling blue. A rare combination of unprecedented originality and blinding talent, The Drowsy Chaperone boldly addresses a great unspoken desire in all of our hearts: to be entertained. If you’ve ever sat in a dark theatre and thought, “Dear Lord in Heaven, please let it be good” – then this show is for you! Director David Sinclair says of this production; "Whether you are a theatre goer who only likes plays or you are one who loves musicals, this show is for you. The Drowsy Chaperone is a cleverly constructed piece of theatre meshing together both play and musical. I feel honoured to be part of the team to bring this production to life for the first time for South Australian audiences. Our cast members are really wonderful and together with Linda Williams and Mark DeLaine, I am truly excited about working with them all". The show will star Scott Nell as Man In Chair, Wendy Rayner as Mrs Tottendale, Greg Beer as Underling, Brady Lloyd as Robert Martin, Lindsay Prodea as George, Lindsay Dunn as Feldzieg, Shelley Crooks as Kitty, Fiona DeLaine as Janet Van De Grraaff, Bronwen James as The Drowsy Chaperone Jamie Richards as Aldolpho, Beau-Daniel Loumeau and Angus Smith as the Gangster Duo and Megan Humphries as Trix. The ensemble includes Jon DeLaine, Gus Robson, Adam Harrison, Fiona Aitken, Stacey Kennedy, Kate Anolak, Melissa Stupel and Nicole Hartnett. Suitable for the whole family. Evening performances @ 8pm Sunday Twilight Matinee @ 5pm
