DUST off your leather jackets – much-loved musical Grease is set to light up Koorliny Arts Centre next month, bringing a classic blend of rock ‘n’ roll, song and dance and teen angst to the stage. Based on the 1971 musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey and arguably best known for its film version, Grease follows the stories of teenagers at Rydell High School as they navigate the complexities of love, cars and drive-ins in the late 1950s. The show will feature film favourites You’re the One that I Want, Greased Lightning, Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted to You and Grease Is the Word, combined with high-energy dance routines and a seriously amped up fun factor. Directed by Karen Francis, the show stars Matt Sheehy as Danny, Tiana Pisano as Sandy, Monique Kinnest as Jan and Trick Cole as Roger and David Gray as Vince Fontaine, with a talented ensemble from across the Rockingham, Kwinana and Mandurah region. Koorliny manager Ryan Taaffe said Grease was a great production to kick-start a year of fun-filled in-house shows. “I’m looking forward to it all coming together,” he said. “It’s a popular show and it will be a great night out.” Francis said rehearsals were going “extremely well”. “The energy level is fantastic,” she said. “There are lots of new people in the show and two fantastic leads.” Performance dates are February 17, 18, 24 and 25, and March 2 and 3 at 8pm.
