Union House Theatre presents the World Premiere of
No Place Like
A blistering, black epic about the State we’re in.
A play by Chris Summers
Directed by Tom Gutteridge
Chris Summers, one of the hottest emerging playwrights in the country, taps into the zeitgeist by channelling our current world of coal-driven commerce, political hysteria, environmental meltdowns and domestic confusion. This epic black comedy, No Place Like, has been created especially for Union House Theatre.
Beginning in the present, just before a state election, No Place Like charts a discordant Melbourne. Part fiction, part close observation it careers off into the future and the past, splicing political issues such as street violence and failing state infrastructure with visions of a free-market apocalypse and moments of tenderness. Within this heady brew, Chris raises some serious questions about the idea of ‘home’ — the many forms it can take, and how hard we struggle to create it.
Union House Theatre Artistic Director, Tom Gutteridge and designers Tanja Beer and Nicola Andrews, lead a brilliant cast of student performers on this wild journey through a Melbourne both recognisable and hilarious.
Warning: violence, strong language and apocalyptic themes!
