My Fair Lady is the story of a poor flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, who becomes the subject of a bet between two men, Henry Higgins, a Professor of phonetics, and Colonel Pickering, another linguist who does not believe that this common girl who has the ugliest cockney accent can be taught correct British elocution. The race is on to turn Eliza into a lady in time for the Embassy Ball, where she will be introduced to the Queen and other heads of state.
The stage production of My Fair Lady was first made famous by Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison in 1956, and will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2006.
