Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts is proud to announce the GRAND OPENING SEASON OF EVENTS in celebration of their brand new theatre performance space! Nestled on the ground’s eastern perimeter, this state of the art performance facility will be opened with an exclusive Gala Evening, followed by three theatrical productions, celebrating the past triumph and future potential of students from Drama, Music and Dance. Guided by their award winning production team, Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts has a long history of achievement, both academic and creative; including the critically acclaimed musical Beauty and the Beast, which recently received seven wins and fifteen nominations at the Canberra area theatre awards. Let the battle for the presidency begin! The Girls of the Garden Club is an hilarious, irreverent and occasionally naughty romp through the world of small town politics. A lushly foliated comedy! Be prepared for an evening of fun, frivolity, and even a little fertilizer! Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa is an experimental dance short which explores the concept of human enlightenment. Created by Chris Richards and Nadina Bampton, Tabula Rasa is a sensory and emotional journey of movement; both visceral and visual. Tickets are available through www.wollongong-h.schools.nsw.edu.au JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (2nd June – 11th June) Based loosely on the Gospel’s account of the last week of Jesus’ life, the production highlights the political and personal struggles of Judas Iscariot and Jesus Christ. Including the beloved musical numbers Heaven On Their Minds, Gethsemane and Superstar; this timeless rock opera is an energetic musical foray into one of the greatest stories ever told! It is a two thousand year old story, imbued with twentieth century aesthetics, accompaniments and attitudes. From the award winning production team at Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts comes this dark, edgy, and breath-taking musical journey, equip with state of the art technology and a full live orchestra.
