Details

Back in 2006, triple WAMi award winning showman Tomás Ford’s catapulted into the Adelaide Fringe with an epic three and a half week season of shows. Billed as Tomás Ford’s Cabaret Of Death, the performances generated significant controversy and divided audiences. The on-the- edge-of-sanity punk rock antics and the brash electroclash that made up his set at the time made for a thrilling lo-fi spectacle. Since then, he’s developed …into something of a distinguished gentleman; an old fashioned high tech showman, if you will. He’s learned the gentle art of coercing and charming audiences. His music has evolved into a mix of cutting edge electro beats and his smooth pop crooning, though there’s still some digital rough and tumble. The resulting performances have been a hit with audiences; he now regularly tours the country to critical acclaim and regularly ends shows carried aloft by the crowd. In Perth, he is best known for his theatre show, Tomás Ford’s Disco Bunker, which cemented his status as a Western Australian cult icon with two massive sold out shows at the historic Astor Theatre. He’s accrued plenty of sordid tour stories, from his time as a regular guest of Big Day Out’s Lilyworld, recent additions to the bill of music festivals including Laneway Festival and Southbound, supports for acts including Architecture In Helsinki and The Presets through to his own anarchic city-hopping tours. This years’ Adelaide Fringe will see Ford hit town for five nights only, premiering his new show Gentleman & Disconcerter; an electro cabaret designed to provoke and flood the senses with glowing costumes, video effects and his patented unpredictable showmanship.
