Storm the Stage – National Final
Exceptional solo performances from Australia’s finest young theatre performers will Storm the Stage in their chosen category of drama or musical theatre.
Twenty young performers aged between 16 and 19 years, have successfully achieved selection for the sixth annual Storm the Stage National Final where they will perform at the University of WA’s intimate Octagon Theatre on Thursday December 2. A total prize pool of $10,000 will be awarded to the best and runner up in both categories and the Briggs-Gibbs Award.
The intimacy of the Octagon Theatre and the educational surrounds of the University of Western Australia ushers in a new direction for Rotary’s Storm the Stage, and will enable each performer to engage one on one with their audience.
With an emphasis on solo performances and a ‘back to theatre’ approach, the finalists will receive guidance and feedback from professionals in theatre within a nurturing environment, including workshops conducted by Black Swan Theatre.
Each finalist offers an exciting opportunity to work with the producer and lighting designer to design and have input into the lighting effects for their solo performance. Musical theatre finalists will have an opportunity to work with a musical director and band and drama finalists with drama specialists.
Carolyn Fennelle, chairperson of Storm the Stage says “patrons will be moved, inspired and delighted by their talent”.
“Prepare yourself for a kaleidoscope of solo performances as they portray characters that will take your emotions on a journey of joy, sadness, anger, despair, laughter, courage, bewilderment, inspiration, confrontation and much more. It is what makes Storm the Stage a special event.”
Storm the Stage is a national Rotary project backed by IFAC (International Foundation for Arts and Culture) and is supported by Hugh Jackman and Jill Perryman as patron, both Western Australian international actors.
