"A Night Of Deceit"
A collection of tall tales featuring a menagerie of deceitful characters.
A little light music to set the scene.
A Western Australian production.
A Night of Deceit is a locally devised production comprising of five originally written short one-act plays, with intermittent musical numbers. The plays, each set in the 1940s, explore the nature of 'deceit' in various dramatic and comedic settings, and how different characters interact with one another in often deceitful and misleading ways. From the interrogation chambers of London's Scotland Yard, the crime-life of New York, to a suburban Australian railway station, these interactions and motivations unfold, leaving the audience guessing, thinking and laughing. Performed in a 1940s "noir" genre, with a cabaret-style emcee to tie it all together, and culminating in an originally written musical number, A Night of Deceit offers its audience local WA playwrights, actors, singers, directors, producers, costume designers and more!
THE BILL:
Witness the trickery of two con-men trapped in each other's minds and company, in the dull surroundings of an interrogation chamber in Scotland Yard. William Albridge - Written by Elliott Cook
Watch as the tale of two Hell's Kitchen, NYC thieves unfolds slowly in the comfort of their own home. A deconstruction of the lives of New York's dirtiest, greediest lovebirds. Thieves & Foxes - Written by George Gayler
One suburban Australian railway station. Two resolute men of differing socio-economic backgrounds. A displaced member of society troubled by a timetable, Mr Brack and one briefcase. An absurdist examination of class systems in a bygone era. The Gravy Train - Written by George Gayler
A street lady of the night lies at the foot of a shady crime in the cobble roads of East End London. As the story unravels we feel the weight of a guilty conscience as it corrupts the innocent love of a common London lad. Conscience - Written by Iskandar R. Sharazuddin
Observe the fragility and frailty of a proud homosexual in a contrived upper-class London. Feel the emotional weight of a woman lost in the chains of a failing marriage, and laugh as a man says all the wrong things. Erectile Dysfunction - Written by Iskandar Sharazuddin
Eight players, a pack of cards, a smoky room, and a place where problems arise but are never resolved. We invite you into a world of sex, lies and money rollers. The Card Game - Music & Lyrics by Asha Cluer & Shiloh Blondel
