HARBOUR THEATRE’S 3RD PRODUCTION for 2010 will be:
"Ladies Day"
by Amanda Whittington
Directed by Peter Kirkwood
Work, love and life are one hard slog for the fish-filleting foursome Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda. Their luck changes when Linda finds tickets to Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot in York. Off go the hairnets, wellies and overalls and on go the frocks, fascinators and stilettos, as the girls tart themselves up and head off for a drink, a flirt and a flutter for a day at the races they will never forget. Once there the foursome, themselves fish out of water, make the most of this once in a lifetime opportunity to mix it with posh folk. As the day unfolds the champagne flows, secrets spill out and their horses keep winning. By the last race, the girls are on course for a life-changing win. Those rich blokes and exotic holidays could be theirs for the taking but their posh day at the races doesn’t turn out quite as they had planned as echoes from the past come back to haunt them. The four ladies all have different ambitions from the would-be-if-she-could-be Shelley, the soon to retire Pearl, the warm hearted Jan to Linda whose mother is bleeding her dry. As the play develops and they meet the different characters on the race-course (played by Michael Dornan, Andy Markland and Cein Byrne) they give the audience a glimpse of their lives beyond the fish factory with some hilarious and surprising outcomes.
