A Spine Chilling Tale begins Season 2010. The Castle Hill Players, a beloved fixture of the local theatre scene, kicks off its 2010 season of plays next month with “The Woman In Black” adapted by Stephen Mallatratt, from the novel by Susan Hill. Set in the early 1900s, it recounts the ghostly story of Arthur Kipps and the frightening calamity which befell him as a young man. What happened to Arthur in his youth has left him broken, filled with the desire to re-enact - and hopefully exorcise - those events. But Arthur is no showman. Unable to recount his story alone, he employs the services of a professional actor to assist him. Together in an abandoned theatre, they must face the horrors which they themselves conjure up. Prepare to be haunted by one of the best horror stories your will ever see on the stage containing all the ingredients of a classic ghost story, complete with deserted mansion, haunted graveyards, and locals who don't dare breathe a word of the horrors they have witnessed. Director Paul Sztelma (who last directed the successful “Lend Me A Tenor” for the Players in 2008) regards “The Woman In Black” as a masterful piece of storytelling which has been running in London’s West End for over 21 years. “It’s written in such a way that allows two actors on a seemingly empty stage to, frankly, scare the pants off an audience,” he says. “It’s a potent mixture of acting, lighting, sound and design that will have you riveted - and checking the back seat of your car before you drive home”! “The Woman In Black” runs from February 5 to February 27. Performances Wed/Fri/Sat 8.15 pm Sun 4.30 pm Tickets $25/$20 on 02 9634 2929 or www.paviliontheatre.org.au.
