Hitler's Daughter poses powerful questions and examines moral issues in relation to society's fears and prejudices in a fresh, compelling light.
"The lights dimmed and...we were about to be taken on a journey that would defy contemplation. The journey was spellbinding."
The Observer, Gladstone
Adapted from Jackie French's 1999 book, Hitler's Daughter provides a vehicle in which today's climate of wars, racial intolerance and shifting moral codes can be explored - reflecting on themes of genocide, racism, family relationships, adolescent friendships, responsibility and generational guilt.
Hitler's Daughter is an Australian Story that juxtaposes our contemporary ordinariness with an extraordinary time in world history. Furthermore it poses the question - how is history interpreted for us and whose morality judges it?
The play evokes questions about the manipulation of society in the 1930s and 1940s, and in turn questions our own identity and the world we inhabit. How do we overcome the wrongs of the past and create a new way? Can we honestly and openly face these wrongs, and free us of replicating history.
