Fox has assumed classic status as a truly memorable piece on the literary landscape and Monkey Baa has brought this story to life with a stunning dreamlike production using music, dance and drama.
Though permanently grounded by a burnt wing, Magpie discovers that riding atop her friend, one-eyed Dog, as he runs through the bush, feels almost the same as flying: "FLY, DOG, FLY! I will be your missing eye, and you will be my wings." Fox arrives, offering Magpie more speed. Desire overcomes loyalty—but after an exhilarating ride Fox leaves Magpie far out in the desert, saying, "Now you and Dog will know what it is like to be truly alone." Magpie, regretting her abandonment of Dog, slowly begins the long journey home.
Based on the award winning picture book by Margaret Wild and Ron Brooks, this extraordinary adaptation explores the intense emotional drama of love and belonging, temptation, risk and betrayal.
