"Move Over Mrs Markham" by Ray Cooney & John Chapman Directed by Pat Barton The poet Philip Larkin wrote: “Sexual intercourse began / In nineteen sixty-three (which was rather late for me) – / Between the end of the Chatterley ban / And the Beatles' first LP.” So by 1967, you would imagine London to have been a hotbed of adultery and naughtiness. And for some daring souls no doubt it was.  For others it was something to read about in the Daily Mail and titter about in plays such as this.  Joanna Markham (played by Joanna Zukowski of Coolbellup) wants to be “with it”, but in reality is still firmly living in the innocent world of the 1950s. Philip, her husband (played by Sam Farringdon of Samson) doesn’t even aspire to be fashionable. Henry Lodge (played by Graeme Speed of Subiaco), Alistair (played by Michael Dornan of Beaconsfield), Walter Pangbourne (played by Andy Markland of Fremantle) and Miss Wilkinson (played by Elizabeth Jansen of Maylands) however, have thoroughly embraced modern attitudes, providing us with some highly comic clashes of culture. Director Barton says : “How this hilarious farce brings back the memories! The sense that there’s a lot going on out there, but you’re not brave enough to throw yourself into it wholeheartedly, so you just dip a toe in and feel you’re being very bold. Philip and Joanna Markham represent the more traditional life and morals of the 1950s, threatened and unwillingly transformed by the new permissive society of the 1960s.” He continues : “A good farce isn’t pure escapism. It works best when it provides a comic treatment of subjects that could just as easily form the basis of a much more serious play. Once again at Harbour Theatre, I’ve had the good fortune to work with a splendid team both on stage and behind the scenes which will make for a thoroughly enjoyable evening’s entertainment for our audiences.” "Naught nonsense at its greatest" - Daily Express "...so funny is this that it hurts." - Punch CAST: Joanna Markham - JOANNA ZUKOWSKI Alistair Spenlow - MICHAEL DORMAN Sylvie - KIM MOORE Linda Lodge - ANN SPEICHER Philip Markham - SAM FARRIDEN Henry Lodge - GRAEME SPEED Walter Pangbourne - ANDY MARKLAND Olive Harriet Smythe - JENNI GLASSFORD Miss Wilkinson - ELIZABETH JANSEN SEASON DATES: September 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 16th, 18th & 19th at 8.00pm MATINEE: Sept 6th at 2.00pm VENUE: The Princess May Building Cnr Cantonment & Parry Streets, Fremantle ENTRANCE: Please note that the Box Office and Theatre entrance is off Parry Street.
