Cymbeline, the King of Britain, is angry his daughter Imogen has secretly married a poor man for love. He banishes his new son-in-law Posthumus, who goes to fight for Rome. As Imogen leaves in search of her lost love, Posthumus boasts to his pal Iachimo that she would never betray him, a claim Iachimo is determined disprove.
