'A lad in sane productions' in conjunction with the 'Phoenix Theatre Company (Corner of Rockinghan Rd and Carrington St Hamilton Hill) are proud to present the debut of BANNOCKBURN!The 'almost' true story THE STORY In the year 1314, Edward II (Longshank), the King of England, dispatched his mighty army North to Scotland. His intention was to decimate the Scottish army led by King Robert Bruce, and thus, end the war. History reveals that the Scots turned the tables on Longshanks mighty army,’ and the battle of Bannockburn went down in the annals of history, as Scotland’s most famous victory over their auld enemy, notwithstanding the 3-2 win at Wembley in 1967. Our story touches on the lives of just a few of the ‘brave hearts’ who took part in the battle. The story of what took place over those two bloody days was rolled out over three drunken nights by the distant relatives of those who took part. Suffice to say, the story is based on true life events, although how true to life it is, can be put down to how truthful men can be after downing fifteen pints of ale. Johnny Grim’s tale is sure to make you laugh; it may even bring a wee tear to your eye. Whatever you do, dinna miss this show, for if you do, then you’ll suffer a bigger loss than the English did! Well not quite! But noo far off. Footnote: King Robert the Bruce died in 1329. His body is buried in Dunfermline Abbey, while his heart is buried in Melrose Abbey. His spirit lives on.
