PRESS RELEASE FOR POCKET NOVEMBER 08

Pocket theatre Presents…

An actor who appeared on the New York Stage!

A prize winning monologue about a breakdown triggered by an unhappy sexual relationship!

A brand new play from a playwright who recently toured Ireland with her sell out play!

After their best ever season in June 2008, Pocket raises the bar yet again this season with Serenade in Blue by Noel O’Neill, Mariella Rossi, where are you? by Pocket co-founder Helen Brett and Sex in the Dead of Winter and The Motherlode, Lis Hoffmann’s successful Maj Monologues.

This is Noel O’Neill’s first play for Pocket Theatre. O’Neill, who rates his career highlights as playing on stage in New York in various roles ranging from 'George' in 'Of Mice and Men' to 'McMurphy' in 'One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest' says a chance meeting with Dr. Geoff Gibbs  encouraged him to write and teach acting. Serenade in Blue stars O’Neill himself and also Valerie Dragojevic who recently appeared in O’Neill’s 'Confetti from Graceland' and who directed two of his one act plays at Rechabites. Serenade in Blue where an old man and a girl explore an  unexpected relationship.

Mariella Rossi, Where Are You?
is Helen Brett’s fourth play with Pocket and the first time that she has worked with Pocket regular, the talented actor Luchiano Vecchio.Luchiano plays Georgio who delves into his family background and discovers the family is like the potato plant – most parts of it are underground.

One of Helen’s previous Pocket plays, Mama, is enjoying a new lease of life as a full length play and has been produced in Perth and regional WA. In 2007 Helen brought the Australian production of her play, Three Women, to the West of Ireland where it enjoyed a sell out tour.

This is filmmaker, writer, director Lis Hoffmann’s third outing with Pocket. This season she’s directing her 2007 Maj Monologue finalist The Motherlode. The monologue, starring Tracey Paulik, explores the complex character of accomplished stage actor Melanie Hartford as she deals with the potent experience of her mother’s death.

Lis will also direct her 2008 Maj Monologue winner Sex in the Dead of Winter.  Experienced stage actor Craig Williams fresh from the well received Apocalyse Perth at the Blue Room stars as Clifford who has an accident that literally changes the way he sees his world. And this time he can’t avoid the damages he has perpetrated.
