This October, Burnside Players are staging a modern classic: Christopher Hampton’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons). Please note we aren’t at the Burnside Ballroom this time; instead we’re at the Goodwood Institute (formerly the Mayfair Theatre) on Goodwood Road.
It is France, 1783: rival aristocrats the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquise de Merteuil live for the game of seduction and manipulation. The vengeful Marquise wants to enlist the Vicomte to seduce and ruin the naïve Cécile de Volanges, her former lover’s intended; the Vicomte, however, has another in his sights – the happily married and supposedly inaccessible Madame de Tourvel. But all does not go to plan…
Directed by Megan Dansie, whose previous efforts at Burnside include the hits Daisy Pulls It Off, the ATG Curtain Call Award winning The Crucible and the Australian premiere of By Jeeves, the show is a star-studded affair with previous Burnside performers Peter Davies (The Woman In Black), Hannah Wooller (The Crucible), Louise Brumby (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Daisy Pulls It Off, Oh! What a Lovely War, The Crucible), Eleanor Stankiewicz (Daisy Pulls It Off, Oh! What a Lovely War, The Crucible), Paul Briske (By Jeeves), Anita Canala (Extremities) and Mollie Birch (The Crucible).
Please note that the play is performed in English.
The season runs from October 2 to 11 at the Goodwood Institute (formerly the Mayfair Theatre), 166A Goodwood Road, Goodwood. Performances are Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, with a Saturday Matinee on Saturday October 11 at 2pm, and a Twilight Performance on Sunday October 5 at 6pm.
Tickets: Adults $18, concession and groups of 10 or more $15. Bookings via the booking line 0415833034; BASS (fees apply) or online at www.burnsideplayers.com/bookings
