OLD MILL THEATRE
Presents the Victorian thriller, GASLIGHT by Patrick Hamilton for their October production.
This classic Victorian thriller was first produced in 1938 in London's West End. Jack Manningham is slowly and deliberately plotting to drive his gentle wife, Bella, insane. He has almost succeeded when help arrives in the person of former detective Rough, who believes Jack to be a thief and a murderer! come and see for yourselves what happens next!
Recently this play enjoyed a run at London's Old Vic Theatre with Rosamund Pike as Bella,Andrew Woodall as Jack and Kenneth Cranham as Rough.
There have been two film versions over the years, Anton Wallbrook and Diana Wynyard starred in the first vesion and in 1944 Ingrid Bergman, who won an Oscar for her role, and Charles Boyer were Bella and Jack. In 1941 the play opened on Broadway (under the title of Angel Street) and starring Vincent Price. This went on to be the longest running of a 'foreign' play in Broadway's history.
Director Sally Barendse hopes you will enjoy this revival of a true classic.
