RENT the musical - Adelaide - November 2008

Jonathan Larson's rock musical is the joyous, breathtaking and inspiring story of a group of New York City East Village artists struggling to find their voices, and find love, in today's tough times. Based on Giacomo Puccini's classic 1896 opera, La Boheme, Rent boasts some of Broadway's most powerful songs, and broaches controversial themes such as homelessness, AIDS and drug addiction with compassion. Rent has been thrilling audiences of all ages with its moving tale of hopes and dreams. RENT burst upon the theatre scene after its creator, Larson, died suddenly on the eve of the show's first performance off-Broadway at New York's Theatre Workshop in January 1996. The show then opened to rave reviews on Broadway, winning the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. New York Times critic Ben Brantley raved that Rent "shimmers with hope for the future of the American musical." Catchy Title Productions is proud to announce the SA premiere of RENT in November 2008. The stunning production team headed by Director - Scott Nell, along with internationally acclaimed artists Choreographer - Leigh Warren and Musical Director - Matthew Carey also includes other well recognised Adelaide theatrical talent.
