Diamond Valley Singers is proud to present KISMET in July 2008.
DVS has established itself over the last 20 years as a singing and performing group whose proceeds go to local and international charities.
Kismet is set in Baghdad, one thousand years ago. It is an eleventh century Islamic city. There is no link to modern day Baghdad.
Kismet is the ultimate rags to riches story. In the space of 24 hours, the Poet (with the gift of the gab) and his daughter rise from being beggars to leading the Baghdad nobility.
The musical includes well-loved songs such as 'Baubles, bangles and beads', 'Stranger in paradise', and 'And this is my beloved'.
Kismet includes all the clichés of a story of true love. The Caliph sees the Poet's daughter at the bazaar as she sings "Baubles, bangles and beads". They fall in love at first sight and sing the beautiful "Stranger in paradise". When they lose each other for a time they sing the gorgeous evocation "And this is my beloved".
The music for Kismet is all derived from the classical works of Alexander Borodin, a famous Russian composer of early twentieth century. This has led one wit to say "It doesn't matter that the music is borrowed. What matters is the spirit that it's Borodin!"
Join the Diamond Valley Singers as they bring you this wonderful show with all its colour and famous Broadway songs!
“Acting locally and thinking Globally” Diamond Valley Singers will donate the proceeds from the performances to World Vision and Open House.
