This opera seria is often referred to as a serenata, a type of dramatic cantata. Il re pastore is set in Sidon (Lebanon) after the overthrow of Stratone (the tyrant of Sidon) by Alessandro - the king of Macedonia. Thus begins the search for Sindon’s rightful Monarch. We find a pair of lovers, Aminta (a shepherd) and his love Elisa (a shepherdess) declaring their love for each other; and Tamiri (the daughter of Stratone) and Agenore (a Sidonian aristocrat).
