The Graduate Dramatic Society (GRADS) presents their annual Summer Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing.
Acclaimed local director Stephen Lee brings this vibrant and funny play to life with his own distinctive sense of style and fun. Set in the 1920's, mirroring the post war scenario of the play, it examines the idea of women's place in society, where the 'New Woman' of Beatrice challenges the Victorian values of Hero.
Much Ado About Nothing was written when Shakespeare left simple good humour behind to concentrate on Hamlet, Lear and Macbeth. It is one of his greatest comedies but has moments of darkness that are absent from Midsummer Night's Dream or As You Like It.
Showing at the New Fortune Theatre at the University of Western Australia, which mimicks almost exactly the Fortune Theatre of Shakespeare's time.
