The Greatest Woman in the World, play about Maria Montessori by John Bishop

The place is Rome and the time is 1890. A young girl from a well to do family decides to take up medicine as a career rather than marriage. This decision was to have a tremendous impact on the lives of thousands of others. The girl was MARIA MONTESSORI physician, feminist, social reformer, educator. Maria's dedicated fight for reform saw her grow into one of the most admired, influential and controversial women of the twentieth century. There are now over 22,000 Montessori schools in more than 110 countries. Agelink Theatre has responded to the WA Montessori community to assist in the worldwide centenary celebrations with the inspiring, thought provoking and compelling theatrical production, “The Greatest Woman in the World”, by WA playwright John Bishop. The play traces the life of this revolutionary woman and at the same time juxtaposes her public successes with her private failures.
