Olga, Masha and Irina, daughters of a new Russia, have spent the past decade languishing in a small provincial garrison town - far removed from the modern urban stage of the Moscow they grew up in.
With their father dead, their anticipated return to Moscow comes to represent their hopes for living a good life, while the ordinariness of day-to-day living tightens its hold. The sisters, along with their brother Andrei, are forever aware of a better future just beyond reach as they face marriage, birth, and death alike, constantly searching for answers to why we keep on living.
Chekhov’s unflinchingly honest melodrama Three Sisters exposes the decay of the privileged class in Russia and the search for meaning in the modern world at the dawn of the 20th century.
