The Blue Room, Fragmented Artists & ‘Make Time to Talk’ present:
FRAGMENTED
World First
‘Honourable Mention’: 2005/06 Larry Corse Award, USA
Dr Jim Hall is irresistibly drawn to his psychiatric patient Ivan Radicevic, a charismatic former war veteran from Croatia. Ivan has withdrawn behind a wall of moody silence and has a mysterious shoulder injury, puzzling both Dr Hall and Shane, the nurse caring for him.
A series of tantalizing flashbacks in which Ivan’s fragmenting mind reveals itself, feed the hallucinatory experience of Ivan’s “reality”. Why does a rope keep appearing in front of him? What is the symbolic significance of his love of birds? What has happened to his wife and children, and who is the mysterious character Viktor, who appears to haunt and taunt him?
Recent conflicts throughout the world have made issues of trauma, fear and prejudice of primary concern to contemporary societies. Fragmented addresses these issues with passion and humour. A transcendent story of a man battling his haunted memory, Fragmented touches a universal nerve.
“…a very powerful piece of writing, with two excellent central roles for strong actors, which I'm sure will make compelling theatre” – Lindy Hume, Artistic Director, PIAF.
