The 32nd Annual ITA Finley Awards Ceremony
The Independent Theatre Association of WA is proud to present community theatre’s ‘Oscars’ in recognition of amateur theatre’s adjudicated productions for 2006. The 32nd Annual ITA Finley Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday January 20, 2007 at the stunning Penrhos Performing Arts Centre in Como.
The Finley Awards night is coordinated by the Independent Theatre Association, a non profit umbrella organisation for community theatre in Western Australia. Four dedicated ITA adjudicators attend every production entered throughout the year both in metropolitan and regional Western Australia. This year the competition is fierce with 46 productions and of those 35 are plays and 11 musicals competing for their clubs, hoping to return home with their heads proud carrying the honourable Finley.
From its humble beginnings in 1975 the Finley Awards have grown into one of the most prestigious events on the Community Theatre Calendar. Long time friend and associate of the ITA, Mr Craig Williams will host this years awards ceremony, where entertainment will abound the 737 strong auditorium. Thespians from around the state will move heaven and earth to make sure they are at Penrhos for January 20 and their night of nights, where everyone feels like a star.
Awards include Best Play Production, Best Musical Production, Best Actor/Actress, Best Director, Best Supporting Female/Male, Best Emerging Talent, Best Musical Theatre Performer, Best Vocal Direction, Best Set and Best Costumes.
Last year’s Finley Award for Best Play was awarded to the Graduate Dramatic Society of Crawley with “What The Butler Saw” and the Finley Award for Best Musical was awarded to Murray Music and Drama of Pinjarra for their production of “Les Miserables”.
With entertainment snippets from some of the best productions seen in 2006 and an electric atmosphere, if you have ever patronised a community theatre production or have always been curious, then don’t miss this night of nights. Tickets are merely $18 per person, or $16 for groups of 20 or more. Bookings can be made from 27 November 2006 through BOCS Ticketing on 9484 1133 or www.bocsticketing.com.au (booking fee applies).
