The Acting Factory Inc. presents the premiere production of a quintessential Australian drama with music.
DROUGHT BREAKER
by Linda Stainton
In far western NSW the booming silver mines of Hades Crossing feed the burgeoning economy of a newly minted nation. It's a town on the make, and for those hopefuls who don't gain their fortune, there's plenty of work below in the mines. When nine months pass without rain the growing population and its thirsty mining industries soon outstrip the water supply. The mines shut down. The reservoir is drained to the last few muddy inches.
For the sake of political expediency the Chamber of Commerce capitulates to the clamouring public by engaging the services of the man of the moment: one Dr. H. de Majors McWaters, Rainmaker. Based on events of the disastrous 'Broken Hill Water Famine' of 1903, Drought Breaker is an Australian fable about pride and fall, faith and folly and the quest to conquer nature.
