He was a loner – a mysterious stranger who travelled the Pilbara spreading love, loyalty, amazement and barbeque sausages in his wake. He was… the ‘Red Dog’! Born in 1971, ‘Red Dog’, a Kelpie cross, lived the life of a canine hobo. Roaming around the Pilbara, ‘Red Dog’ spent most of his life searching for his owner who died many years before. From Roebourne to Point Samson, Port Hedland to Broome, Tom Price to Perth, the path of Red Dog’s journey took him into many people’s lives. His adventures are now North-West folklore; stories that touch the heart and tickle the funny bone. When he eventually died, Red Dog’s soul became a part of the Pilbara itself. Western Australian based Neill Gladwin – original member of one of Australia’s most successful international comedy acts, Los Trios Ringbarkus – and his team of world-renowned performers and designers will bring this moving “tail” to life using puppetry, music and physical performance; a unique visual vocabulary that will transcend both language and culture. Red Dog comes out of Black Swan Theatre Company’s long and fruitful relationship with the Pilbara and is presented in association with Pilbara Iron.
