Join Green Room Award winners, the Act-O-Matic 3000, on a harrowing journey into the world of two dangerous ex-cons. Set in Perth on a sweltering late-night trip to Freo, Steve and Trev take charge of the train and draw the passengers into their violent lives.
Lisa, a beautiful young law student, captures their attention and things escalate uncontrollably as the train nears its terminus. Marginalised underclass, or brutal thugs? A scathing exploration of masculinity and class, where you’re in the thick of the action.
By turns hilarious and shocking, The Return has taken audiences on its nightmarish trip in the UK, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and throughout Australia, and now for the first time, Melbourne gets the chance to experience the work of one of the country's most exciting playwrights.
This play, which has since been adapted into the MIFF favourite Last Train to Freo, (General release Sept 14), marks the Act-O-Matic 3000's first production since winning the 2005 Green Room Award Best Production (Independent Theatre) for The Laramie Project.
The Act-O-Matic 3000 is proud to present the Victorian premiere of celebrated Australian playwright Reg Cribb’s visceral thriller, the Patrick White Award winning play The Return.
