QUT Creative Industies and Brisbane Festival present Unspoken

"One of those rare works that triumphantly affirms both art and life," Sydney Morning Herald

"The emotional equivalent to open-heart surgery, without the anaesthetic - a real heart-squeezer," Sun Herald

"It moves in the moment and stays in the memory. Unspoken doesn't relax its grip for the entire 50 minutes," Fairfax Digital

The award-winning Unspoken previews at QUT Creative Industries Precinct on the verge of its national tour. Unspoken's stellar reviews are mirrored by it's critical success; winner of Best Independent Production and Best Newcomer (writer and star Rebecca Clarke) at the 2005 Sydney Theatre Awards, as well as the Glug Rising Star Award (Clarke) and it was recently short listed for the NSW Premier's Literary Awards.

Raw and candid, Unspoken is an intimate, moving and amusing monologue about family, disability and growing up. Written and performed by Queensland's Rebecca Clarke and directed by Wayne Blair, Unspoken is a compelling semi-autobiographical story of life with a sibling with severe disabilities. It follows Clarke's teenage years and escape from family life to independence at university, and ultimately, her first love. Unspoken is a life-affirming performance about the complexity of family and the many faces and voices of love; something we all know at a fundamental level, but that remains largely unspoken.

Unspoken will play at The Loft, QUT Creative Industries Precinct's most intimate and progressive black-box theatre space, located on Musk Avenue, Kelvin Grove (near La Boite Roundhouse Theatre).
