A Kara Stacey production in association with Junkyard Monkeys presents
The Tempest by William Shakespeare
27 September 2005 - 8 October 2005
Tragedy. Humour. Romance. Magic. Revenge. Fairies!
At what point is it real?
As part of the 2005 Melbourne Fringe Festival, Kara Stacey and Junkyard Monkeys bring to Melbourne an alternative theatrical production of The Tempest . Using Shakespeare's legacy of words, and retold through recycled theatre forms, The Tempest is a 500 year olde tale of revenge: bitter sweet and full of conspiracy.
The Tempest centres around Prospero, Duke of Milan, exiled with his daughter to a remote island by his brother Antonio. 12 years on, Prospero weaves his magic to restore his place and enact his revenge. This version of The Tempest turns its back on traditional Shakespeare and is instead inspired by Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet . Expect to see silent movies, puppetry and abstract theatre!
