PORTRAIT – MUSICAL THEATRE
Bookings: The Book Nook, Edward St, Brisbane ph: 3221 3707
Follow us into the shadowy world of pleasure and corruption at the premier production of John WikmanÂ’s new musical Portrait at The Cement Box August 15th -30th.
Adapted from the underground classic "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde – “Dorian Gray...retains a veneer of eternal youth during decades of increasingly outlandish vice, depravity and corruption, while his portrait ages and rots in an attic"
Wilde's novel scandalised society on release, with its themes of murder, drug abuse and supernatural horror. Now over 100 years later JohnÂ’s adaptation brings to life the pleasure, the power and the strong moral undertones, that Wilde never got early recognition for.
This is not the first time for Wikman for the last ten years he has been composing and producing Musical Theatre works for the Brisbane community. A unique experiences for Brisbane theatregoers this totally original score from one of BrisbaneÂ’s hottest up and coming musical theatre composers, will be performed by some of BrisbaneÂ’s finest talent.
Director, Emma Tonkin has embraced Wilde's flamboyant wit resulting in costuming and staging that is influenced by such films and productions as Moulin Rouge, Chicago and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
If curiosity has captured your attention, come run Wilde at the Cement Box - University Of Queensland from 15 – 30 August, preview on August 14. PORTRAIT promises to take the audience into the mind of the seductive Mr. Gray.
