One of Gilbert and Sullivan's best works. It is rarely performed today - yet it contains probably Sullivan's best music of the entire series. It has an unusually believable story, free from the usual topsy-turvy. Set in the Tower of London, it concers Colonel Fairfax who is under sentence of death. His friends, the Merylls do all they can to help him escape.
