Snugglepot & Cuddlepie – The Musical

Adapted from “The Complete Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie” by MAY GIBBS
Music & Lyrics by Peter Combe
Additional Lyrics & Script by Carolyn Combe

Directed by Katherine Kiorgaard

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie is based on the childrenÂ’s book by May Gibbs. First published in 1918, it is one of AustraliaÂ’s classics. Peter Combe is Australia's first pop star for kids selling more than three-quarters of a million videos and CD's. But Snugglepot and Cuddlepie is special because it appeals both to adults and children. It premiered at the Adelaide festival in 1992, accompanied by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in front of 23,000 people. The musical has also been performed professionally in Melbourne and Brisbane and released on CD staring Ruth Cracknell.

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie are gumnut babies who live deep in the bush. One day they overhear Old Kookaburra lecturing about scary giant creatures called humans – and so begins one of the greatest Australian adventure stories ever told. In their quest to meet a human being, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie encounter orphaned Ragged Blossom, evil Mrs Snake, the malevolent Banksia Man, a brave frog, Nuts and Blossoms, Mr Lizard, Frilly and Fish Folk, and many more uniquely Australian characters. The plot takes the gumnuts on a boat, under the sea, then in a bottle ever pursued by the Banksia men.

A truly Australian Musical Treat! Kids can meet their favourite characters in the courtyard after the show.
